Our industry still needs synthetic materials for ensuring the functionality of our products. Every fibre has some impact to the environment, and we believes investing in "solutions and innovations" rather than halting the use of certain materials altogether.
Way to reduce virgin plastic
- Collect and recycle the waste yarns from production. This becomes more important in recent years. Due to fashionable trend, the production quantity per lot becomes smaller. This creates a bigger waste in machine warm-up. Therefore, Lok Mei has a clear workflow to collect and recycle waste labels.
- Better control on stock and production quantity. Lok Mei has a clear statistic and forecast for brands. We will produce according to customer and internal analysis. This aims to reduce average unit costs and reduce the duplicated and unnecessary waste from machine warm-up period. No matter virgin plastic or recycled yarns, Lok Mei can highly reduce waste from production.
- Collect and recycled the extra stock: Of course, this is must and necessary that Lok Mei has collected and recycled the extra woven labels. The labels can be recycled and made to yarns again.
Way to reduce microplastics
Microplastics in washing is caused by fibre fragmentation. Fibre fragmentation is influenced by a variety of factors such as yarn specification, dyeing technology, coating and material construction
Lok Mei uses the most reliable yarns suppliers in the market. Different to garment used polyester yarns, we always use the highest level color-fastening materials. The yarn factory uses high-temperature and vacuum dyeing process. The microplastics has been washed out in the color-dye process. Therefore, the yarn factory needs to collect the waste water and make a strict wastewater treatment. This can highly reduce the chance of microplastics releasing to the environment.
Besides, Lok Mei always study the label woven construction. This can reduce the fibre fragmentation.
